Office of Democratic Alliance

What is Democratic Alliance?

Democratic Alliance (DA) is South Africa’s liberal party and the official opposition party in the South African parliament. In the last election, DA received 89 out of 400 seats in the parliament. The party is led by Mmusi Maimane since May 2015. The party received more than 50% of the votes in Cape Town, where it has its stronghold and its headquarters. The party’s slogan is ”One Nation – One Future” and is an advocate for openness, transparency and anti-corruption in South Africa. DA is part of the global umbrella organisation Liberal International, which the Swedish Speaking People’s Party of Finland is a member of. The next elections will be organised in 2019 and DA has good prospects of becoming the biggest party in South Africa.
